Movies in my spare time : Shooter

I  watched the movie Shooter with Mark Wahlberg this past weekend in a car ride to my brothers football game to pass some time.  Anything with Mark Wahlberg I usually see, and shooter is one of my favorite movies he has done.  I like a lot of Wahlberg's movies because there violent and have a good story.  Like most of Wahlberg's movies Shooter is action packed and keeps you on your toes, with a plot that throws a couple curveballs at you. people who would enjoy this movie are people who are interested in action, and plots with a twist, also happy endings after a rough beginning.
One key scene from Shooter that got me excited was in the end where Bob Lee Swagger  is brought before the attorney general and the FBI director in a closed-door meeting in Washington.  Where Bob Lee Swagger has to prove his innocents. And he proves that it couldn't of been him who shot the bullet, because all of his bullets are customized to his gun and if their not those bullets the gun won't function.  So he takes the bullets and asks for permission to load the gun, he puts the bullet in his gun and aims it at the attorney General and pulls the trigger.  Nothing happens because the gun won't function this ultimately proves his innocence and grants him a release from where he was being detained. He then goes and finds the man who sets him up and kills him. this scene got people interested because he picks the loaded gun up and points it at the attorney General which is highly illegal but thats what he need to do to prove he was innocent.
The film itself doesn't have really any unusual features that stick out. the filming it done with a bunch of different angles but thats about it.   couple images i really like in the movie though is when he is up in the mountains shooting and it makes everything seem so real and so natural. you don'
t always see that in movies today. Also his home that he's living in is really cool because i have a similar type of cabin that is excluded from the outside world.

I gave Shooter ****/***** stars because like I said before it is an action packed movie that kept me on my toes, and in the end Wahlberg the innocent man proves his innocents in the case of accused accusations of the attempt at executing the president.  This movie is very similar to another one of Wahlberg's movie Contraband.  It's similar to contraband because in both movies Wahlberg is just a law abiding citizen with a past and history that he's not so proud of and is trying to move on from it.  In Contraband he is an ex smuggler and is working on getting his family on the right track. in shooter he is an ex sniper shooter for the US army.  both of those lives are behind him but not ideal situations  arose where people request his skills to return, which puts him in sticky situations that he has to get out of.  And in the end of both stories Wahlberg preservers and continues on working on his new morals and beliefs . But both films start of sort of dark and continue to be dark until the end.

  1. Brian, this movie looks really interesting. I have never seen it before, but after reading your review I definitely want to check it out. I agree that Mark Wahlberg makes a lot of great movies, so I am sure that this one compares to his other ones. Action movies are always great to watch because there is so much going on, whether it is car chases or shooting scenes. The ending scene that you described seems very intense. I can already tell that this movie is action-packed and suspenseful because of the fact that Wahlberg points a gun at the Attorney General to prove a point. I can't wait to watch this movie.

  2. Nice job on the review Brian. Ive seen shooter before and Its one of my favorite movies. The scene that you described is a great one and it stuck out in my mind as well. When it comes to the cinematography however, I disagree with your opinion that there isnt any special camera work. I havent seen the movie in a while but I remember there being a lot of long distance, dramtic shots, and close ups in intense moments.I liked how you compared this to anohter one of Wahlberg's movies. Hes an actor that makes a lot of similar movies so making a comparison to another of his films is helpful for the reader to decide on if they should see it or not. Great review it made me want to go watch it again.

  3. Whats up brain, great review. I have also seen the movie Shooter multiple times before. I also like movies that have some violence in them because it causes some suspense and keeps you on your toes all the time. I think you chose a great scene to talk about as your favorite because he is aiming a high powered sniper rifle at the attorney which never happens in any other movies. I like the beginning of the movie also because him and his partner get stuck in a gun fight and the people at base wont help them out. They are pretty much left to fend for themselves. Overall you did a great job I think and i like the picture you included!!

  4. Been awhile since ive seen the movie but the review to me was pretty spot on with what i think. I liked the part where you mentioned how most of Wahlberg's movies are dark in the beginning and dark all the way through which is kind of the reason why his movies are good. Going back to what you said about the environments being real, i thought that was the movies strong point. It didnt seem generic like most movie settings it had some character to it and real. great review
